French Class

Our cultural and fun French Class for 3rd-8th grade students meets weekly on Tuesday afternoons with Madame Janice Silva.  Registration forms for the third trimester are available online and in the school office.

In the first trimester, students progressed almost halfway through the book, The First One Thousand Words in French, by Heather Amery.  After spending class time learning the pronunciation of the words in this book, according to special categories such as "Le Jardin" - "The Garden" - students then wrote the words, first in English and then in French.  Students learned the Sign of the Cross and the Hail Mary in French, which they say at the beginning of each class.  They also learned French songs at the end of each class.  During the first trimester students had a French cooking class with Chef Diana Guilbaud.  The students did a fantastic job helping Diana do the preparation of the ingredients and cooking of the apple crepes a la francaises.

In the second trimester, we finished The First One Thousand Words in French and begin studying Easy French: Step-by-Step, by Myrna Bell Rochester.  We took a special field trip to the Seattle Art Museum to view French art by French artists, including a sculpture by renowned Parisian sculptor, Auguste Rodin.

In the third trimester, we will begin to construct French phrases and sentences; special attention will be given to correct pronunciation of French and good table manners.  An end-of-the year visit to a French restaurant for lunch which will be no-host. Parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents will be welcome.  Before we go to the French restaurant, we will practice conversing and ordering from the menu in French.

Merci beaucoup!

Class fee is $100 ($50 additional for non-SCCS student)
