During their elementary school years, children grow in competence, confidence and awareness. It’s a time of building skills and exploring new concepts. Our comprehensive curriculum is designed to nurture our students intellectually, creatively and spiritually.

Curriculum Highlights

3rd Grade & 4th Grade

  • Scope and Sequence for  3rd and 4th Grade
  • Social Studies: Focus on Washington State and Oregon Trail Story Path
  • Singapore Math guided by the Common Core State Standards
  • Writers workshop with emphasis on expository and narrative writing and poetry. Accelerated Reader (AR) is used to give students reading goals that to support and challenge them.
  • Science is guided by Next Generation Science Standards. One science unit is per Trimester: 2017-2018 topic were the Human Body, Physics of Sound & Water with several field trips throughout the year.

Joan Nielsen

3rd/4th Grade Instructor


Ms. Kerry Carson teaches the Explorers and Pre K  classes.   Ms. Carson has earned a Masters in Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in early Childhood Education.  She has worked as our director of Crusader Care, at Peacock Child Care Center on Bainbridge Island, and most recently, as a ParaEducator at the Island School on Bainbridge Island.  Ms. Carson is a member of Saint Cecilia parish and has three children attending SCCS.
