During Mrs. Van Eaton’s time at IslandWood last

During Mrs. Van Eaton’s time at IslandWood last week, Mr. Shields, the SCCS Robotics Instructor, stepped in to lead the Science class for a few days. He devised an engaging project that integrated mathematics and engineering, introducing 7th and 8th graders to basic surveying techniques on the SCCS campus. The students thoroughly enjoyed the activity and calculated the campus area to be 1.75 acres! Handy info! 📏🏫📐

This week, SCCS 5th/6th graders embarked on their annual journey to IslandWood for a week filled with environmental learning, stewardship, and exploration! 🌳🌎🔬 Immersed in nature, they delved into topics like weather systems, landscapes, and organisms, conducting science experiments and realizing that “everything is science”!
Today, our students returned to school with a deeper appreciation for our planet, thanks to an inspiring week at IslandWood. We are so excited to hear all about their experiences! 🧑‍🔬🌎👩‍🔬

Monday’s Morning Meeting at SCCS buzzed with excitement as Mrs. Van Eaton, our science teacher, led a discussion on the solar eclipse! 🌕☀️🌎 Although our location and weather hindered our view, Mrs. Van Eaton announced that students would tune into NASA livestream to witness the path of totality while exploring its rarity, causes, and impacts. She also highlighted that this would be the last solar eclipse visible across the United States for the next 20 years! Wrapping up, students shared three enjoyable highlights from their Spring Break and cheered on the 5th/6th graders as they embarked on a nature and science-filled week at IslandWood. 🔭🏫🌍
