Grace Notes for February 23rd

Cultural Humility

Cultural Humility is being open to new ideas, perspectives and other cultures while still being true to your own.  It is having the ability to come into new encounters from the perspective of a learner – looking at someone else and asking to learn about their culture without making assumptions.

On February 1st, Dr. James Knight, author of Heart:  A Journey Toward Cultural Humility presented to teachers and then to students about listening to and learning from one another.

At the HEART of Cultural Humility is listening, asking questions, and keeping an open mind. We don’t assume we know about a person by looking at them.

The words of Dr. Knight resonated with students and teachers

The concept of listening, respecting and not judging is at the very heart of our faith.
